Wiki category pages are for the purpose of displaying subcategories, articles, and media. Users should not have to scroll past repeated material from articles to see the essential contents. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 00:37, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Are you referring to Category:Europe? This was made because we seem to have both a category and article for each country and continent. We're trying to effectively communicate serious information, and having multiple pages for each subject could be confusing (even if there is an obvious distinction to regular wiki users). However, I am inclined to agree, so long as there is a very obvious link to the main subject article. Gboyers talk 00:57, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. In my regular wikis I put {{Catmore}} (which you can copy from Genealogy:Template:Catmore - without the /doc page} at the top of most categories as well as having the "main" article on top of the articles list. And we well presumably have very few links pointing to categories, so that very few "ordinary" readers will see anything other than the articles. - Super happy to see people working together so well. It's too early to tell how important this is going to be - I hope we all sit around a week from now saying "wow, that was a bit of a waste of time, that flu scare turned out to be nothing". But if this turns out badly, I think we will be proud to have done something early to try to help people get the information they are going to need. :) And it's all about complicated and interesting editorial decisions like the ones you two are talking about. ----Jimbo Wales 01:48, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
